Urban Light :: Beige Romper + Nude Sandals

Romper :: Macy's (similar and current fave here)
 Sandals :: Steve Madden Nude Sandals (similar here
Belt :: H&M (similar here)
Necklace :: H&M (similar here)

Since its installation in 2008, Urban Light has become a visual icon of Los Angeles. Standing in front of LACMA, Urban Light consists of 202 restored cast-iron street lamps, most of which used to light the streets of Southern California. Artist Chris Burden began collecting street lamps in 2000 ranging from 20 to 30 feet tall, there are a total of 17 different lamp styles. This iconic and abstract piece of art is one of the city’s most photographed sites. It was stunningly beautiful up close with its elaborate geometric patterns and exuberant glow. To stand out amongst the uniform grey sculpture I chose a beige palette attire for a sleek appeal and feminine look. Rompers are sizzling on the trend report this season. It is probably one of the most effortless ways to throw on a one-piece outfit and make it look fashionable. They're extremely versatile and can work for day with a blazer and belt or jazzed up for night with heels and statement jewelry. Because they don't require separate coordination, they'll do in a pinch when you're short on time. Just accessorize to accomplish the look you want - from casual to chic. Rompers are fun, flirty and a fashion favorite this season.

Disney Concert Hall :: Asymmetric Top + Abstract Heels

 Top :: H&M (splurge here)
  Shorts :: H&M (similar here)
Sandals :: Fergie Torcha (here
Clutch :: American Apparel (similar here)
Belt :: Express (similar here)

Walt Disney Concert Hall became a Los Angeles icon the moment it opened its doors to the public in 2003. The concert hall was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehr and what a majestic piece of architecture it is. The building looks like a piece of music in mid-flow and since the exterior is silver it reflects blue from the sky so much so that you can't tell where the building ends and the sky starts. In keeping with this timeless structure I wanted to create an equally timeless pairing that is both comfortable and chic. The asymmetric top paired with these skirt-like shorts gives this overall outfit a relaxed look. I greatly appreciate the minimalistic look of these abstract heels. It's clean, simple and surprisingly comfortable and really adds another dimension to this outfit. Asymmetric dresses and tops are great ways to add an arty vibe to your outfit, they can be worn over skinny jeans and leggings and can often be a great way to camouflage a tummy. Most definitely a girl's best friend for those all-you-can-eat buffet sessions!

PFC #14: Holiday Emergency

This month’s Petite Fashion Challenge is hosted by Couture Coco.
The Challenge: You have a pre-booked dinner date on the first day of your holiday but your luggage is delayed. Therefore you must style your travel outfit into a special evening look using whatever you carry in your purse and anything else immediately at hand.
If you ladies remembered, this is what Mini-me and I wore to the airport in this post HERE. As a mother I always carry extra clothing for the family just in case. You never know what might happen when traveling with two young children.
So on that particular trip - these are the accessories that I had with me. I didn't realize it until now but this outfit really gives off a Gothic feel, not that that's a bad thing of course, but I didn't want to go overboard. Thankfully I had the pearl necklace to be used as a bracelet to bring it down a notch. I still can't get over how comfortable this dress is and love the way it drapes!
One thing I didn't have with me was make-up. TSA always make a fuss when you have those liquids, eye lash curlers, foundations, etc. in your carry-on so I put mines in the checked bag. Not a big deal for me since I don't usually wear make-up anyways.

Hope you enjoyed my 3rd PFC. Check out my last one HERE. Thank you Couture Coco for hosting! Be sure to check out the rest of the Petite Fashion Challenge participants listed over at Couture Coco.

Spring Vibe :: Floral Prints and Peplum

 Happy Spring everyone!

Sunny days and blossoming flowers are the perfect inspiration for the up and coming floral print trend this season. And with the right silhouette, flower-patterned apparels can give you a sleek and sophisticated look that will be perfect for any occasion.
When it comes to floral apparels, it's important to choose a simple silhouette so that the focus will be on the prints. Therefore to create a stylish and slim look, I paired my floral peplum top with an intricate wide belt and balanced it out with matching color wedges. As long as you keep your accessories to a minimum, you're sure to flourish in your floral ensemble!
Floral prints are a great incarnation of this feminine spring style so whether you choose a print dress, leggings, or a pretty top, there are plenty of opportunities to add some flower power to your spring look!

Postcard :: Daytona Beach FL

Hi everyone!
On the drive back to Savannah we took a detour and stopped into Daytona Beach. Located on Florida's Atlantic coast, the beautiful Daytona has an endless stretch of coarse sand that is hard enough to drive on.
Upon close inspection the sand contained a high percentage of crushed and worn coquina shells that gives it an almost orange appearance. It was amazingly beautiful and feels so nice to walk on!
In keeping with the beauty and vigor of the colorful sand I decided to wear my equally colorful dress to blend in with the astonishingly rich palette of this shoreline.
But after seeing my kids have so much fun in the water I had to change into my bathing suit to join them =)

Postcard :: Clearwater Beach FL

Sorry for being MIA ladies, it is difficult to blog on vacation with slow wifi signals! In any case we are still on vacation so I wanted to share some more photos with you.
We had a choice between Cocoa or Clearwater Beach and we chose the latter. The extra hour on the road was totally worth it! Like many Gulf of Mexico beaches, Clearwater Beach is blessed with silky white sand and clear, warm, turquoise water. We played in the warm sand and chased the water line all day long. When traveling to a warm location, I always make sure to bring at least one stylish swimsuit cover-up. These lightweight garments allow me to transition from the beach to an informal restaurant and provide shelter from the sun as well.

Besides this, swimsuit cover-ups are extremely practical since they delicately camouflage your weak spots, giving you a super chic, soft and feminine look =)

Weekend Style :: Peplum Trend

Happy Friday everyone!
More interesting than a belt, and easier to wear as it creates the illusion of curves while disguising troublesome tummy issues, the peplum is back! Peplums are overskirts, ruffles or flares at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, dress or skirt.
Peplums are a fantastic way to work in a retro, feminine touch, while still coming across as festive when pulling together a day or night look. Whether you opt for a peplum-accented jacket, a peplum skirt, or a peplum embellished dress - it adds a wonderfully flirty touch to any ensemble.
Because the peplum style puts a lot of emphasis on the hip area, a waist-cincher is a must for me. If the peplum silhouette makes you shy, consider a dark monochromatic style for a subtle but still fabulous look. I recommend adding at least one peplum item to your suitcase for when you travel as it may be the best way to look fashion-forward and indulge in your favorite food and beverages while on vacation =)

Note: Sorry for being MIA on the blogsphere - my life has been crazier than usual if you can believe that! I will be visiting your blog this weekend, don't you worry =)

Hippie Headband

I love hippie headbands! They're just so charming. These headbands are an ultimate outfit upgrade on those days you don't fee like piling on a bunch of jewelry but still want to look boho-chic - just pop on one of these gems and you're golden.
In the 1960's headbands in a multitude of styles were popular amongst hippies. Hippies wore them mostly in a ninja style around the crown of their head. Small but mighty, these little babies pack a style punch and add impact to any outfit. Whatever color or embellishment you choose; this look will give you a delicate yet edgy look.
Here are some tips and tricks to rock these headbands without suffering from "weird hair syndrome:"
  1. Thin or Thick: Thin ones give off a flirty flower child vibe while thick ones make a bold statement.
  2. Placement: The popular way is to wear them across the forehead but I like to wear them a couple inches from my hairline to give it a more natural look and to keep my ears from poking out.
  3. Simple or Fancy: Both styles are great but make sure to accessorize appropriately, you don't want to have a busy headband AND a busy outfit.
  4. Hair Texture: Headbands can be worn with all types of hairstyle - straight, wavy, curly or updo.
  5. Loosen it up: Make sure your headband is not too tight as that can cause headaches, find one that ties in the back so that it can be adjusted.
  6. Improvise: You can turn many things into headbands such as necklaces, wrap bracelets, belts.
With so many ways to wear headbands today, everyone can use this chic, cute accessory to complement any wardrobe, style or personality! I hope these tips and tricks were helpful to you.

Weekend Glam :: Soft Chambray

Happy Friday everyone!
Taken individually, each of the items I am wearing today would be so far from glamorous but I love the end result. It is this kind of creativity that sparks the imagination of graduates with degrees from fashion design
schools
. I really adore the look of glamor paired with a casual vibe. I think I've worn this chambray shirt enough times to be able to call it my own. I don't think Hubby has worn it at all since he bought it =)

The kids have winter break next week but unfortunately I still have work and school so we might do a weekend trip since Monday is a holiday. If we do end up going somewhere I will do a quick "What to pack for a short trip" entry to share with you ladies =) Enjoy the rest of your day!

Texturizing

Hi everyone! If only these pants were red I would be so ready for Valentine's day =)
Regardless, here's a texture filled look I wore recently to go eat sushi and frozen yogurt. Yes, you heard me right, we went to eat frozen yogurt in the freezing cold. That's how we deal with the disappointment that winter is still 6 weeks away as per the groundhog's foresight!
Needless to say we are heading to GA/FL in 3 weeks so I am super excited to start packing. Have a great Monday everyone!

Mom's Jewelry Box

I absolutely loved playing with my mom's jewelry collection when I was younger. And now that I am married I have a whole new collection of great items to play with - my mother-in-laws'.
This past weekend we stayed at my in-laws and it was so much fun rummaging through my mother-in-laws' treasures to find things that she doesn't often wear but are important to her because she keeps them in special boxes. Her collection consists of so many unique pieces; pieces you just can't buy in stores these days. I love jewelry pieces that have special details and was totally smitten by this gorgeous necklace and matching pin!

Aside from the fact that her pieces are unique and special, they also come with a story. Most of the time they have more sentimental than monetary value but it is the pride of ownership and being the keeper of family tradition that holds the value of the item. We often get so into buying things that we overlook amazing things that are within reach!
