This winter season I am trapped in a love fest with the hat of the season...the trapper hat. The trapper hat, once reserved for hikers and hunters, has now worked its way into the fashion world. The basic concept is a hat that is lined with fur or shearling and has flaps that come down over your ears to keep them warm.
Make all the Elmer Fudd jokes you want, but these hats are not only warm and toasty, they are also totally trendy. Truth be told - beanies are a cute hair accessory alright but they are hardly a defense against chilling temperatures.
The trapper hat is both functional and fashionable and what's even better is most of them are unisex so just worry about finding one that fits your head nicely. This one that I am wearing belongs to my husband, I purchased it for him at least 8 years ago while we were still in college. Back then I would only use it for skiing, shoveling or to hide a blonde-gone-bad look. Who knew it would be a fashion statement now!
These hats are a perfect style option if you want to sport an accessory that suits both casual as well as sporty and more chic attires. Try it with feminine tailored pants and a slim fitting coat to ensure that you don't look like a lumberjack who's lost his way. Or glam it up a bit like I've done here with a flowy top and vest.
Neutral shades are perfect for an immaculately built up look, or you can go for a bold colored design one that matches your outfit. Shearling, fur, leather, tweed, suede, you name it. You're covered when it comes to finding the perfect hat for those chilly days. I'm all over this trend because it's fun and completely practical; and as an added bonus I can stay warm while sporting shorts in December =) Have a great weekend ladies!
