Ribbon Sweater

Hi everyone!
I have to confess that I have a weak spot for ribbons. I fell in love with this cardigan when I first saw it in stores but couldn’t decide if I should get it. Lucky for me I snagged one during their winter sale for $7! I love the juxtaposition of knits and ribbons – they add just the right amount of flair to create a Parisian-meets-bohemian look.
As some of you may know I am hitting the home stretch with law school, this is my LAST semester. I am still working full-time, taking 4 classes, and trying to wrap my head around this whole application and preparation process for the upcoming bar exam in July. Please accept my advance apology as I may be a day or two late on visiting and commenting on everyone's blog!

The Grandpa Sweater

Here in Boston, January is throwing us for a loop. The weather has been sublime lately, and a thick sweater is doing well as a jacket. And if you want to be extra cozy, it might be time to try a grandpa sweater.
The "grandpa sweater" is not a technical term but it was dubbed with this name because it's big, comfy, and absolutely divine for snuggling up in, i.e. Mister Roger's style =)
I've always been a big fan of over-sized wool sweaters, they let you bury yourself in their comfy warmth. Granted, this is not the outfit to bust out on a first date or for Friday night cocktails but it's a cute a trendy look for Sunday brunch or afternoon shopping.
I love them most paired with skinnies - it's long enough to cover your derriere, comfy enough to echo in public and you'll still look slim because your legs will be on full display. I love wearing menswear-inspired clothes. There's something about messy hair, no make-up, and an over-sized sweater! I hope my bare face didn't scare you, but in all honesty I don't wear make-up to work or school so keeping it real today =)

Plaid and Preppy

Plaid is everywhere this fall. It reminds me of my BU days wearing flannels to class. There's nothing cuter and cozier than a guy or girl in checks.
The preppy look is borrowed from the preparatory school culture, and can be thought of as the proper and well-mannered trend. This does not mean that you have to behave in a certain way when sporting this trend; the look simply exudes properness.
Geek chic is definitely the right way to go with plaid - so today I wanted to embrace my inner nerd :) I love how it's such a casual look and so easy to pull together. The key is to keep the rest of your outfit simple and let the plaids take the spotlight.
Don't be afraid to put your own personal stamp on this preppy style by wearing your favorite accessories, whether they're preppy or not. It will help to soften the clean, hard lines, and make your look come off more natural and personal. Here I am wearing my favorite chunky infinity scarf which I hand-knitted myself.
The preppy look advocates for simplicity on a number of levels, and the make-up worn with the look should also be simple. Or in my case none at all.

I am so glad today is Friday. Can't wait until work ends so I can go home and crash. My goal this weekend is to sleep. Finals are 3 weeks away and I need to save up my energy for it. Hope you ladies have a relaxing weekend as well!

Wide Leg Jeans

After several years of skinny jeans ruling the fashion world, wide leg jeans are making a comeback. Although I definitely don't want to see skinny jeans go, I love mines dearly, I do welcome alternative options.
With so many different shapes, washes and styles; it is easy for every body type to find a perfect pair of wide leg jeans. They look great with a tucked in blouse and belt, or you can wear a casual T-shirt for a more effortless chic look.
I love how they do wonders for my height.
Definitely wear heels, platforms or wedges when you're sporting this look to give you that slim silhouette. Flats will simply not work unless you are already very tall. Add a slim-fitted top to balance out the volume on the bottom or a soft flowy blouse, like I've done here. Without the blazer I can add a belt to cinch the waist to create a hour-glass figure.
My adoration for these jeans comes from my love affair for all things '70s-inspired. I definitely don't think you have to wait until the weather is warmer to try this look out. All you need is a pair of roomy jeans, your favorite chunky heels and a button-down jacket or leather bomber and you are ready to go.
Funny story about this pashmina - I don't know if you ladies watch "Friends" but there was one episode where Rachel's sister, Jill (played by Reese Witherspoon) bought a whole bunch of stuff with her dad's credit card and so when Rachel came to confront her Jill gave all her purchases to Ross. When Rachel asked Ross what he bought, he pulled out a pashmina. Rachel, knowing that it was not his, asked him what it was and he rubbed it on his face and said it was a rug - LOL. It was the funniest thing ever. After watching that episode and laughing over it with hubby, he went out and bought me this pashmina with a note saying "To my lovely wife - hope this "rug" keeps you warm." ;) Have a great weekend ladies!
